New President!

TODAY IS THE DAY! Associate Attorney Agnes Jury of Sterling Law has served as President-Elect of GTLABA (Grand Traverse-Leelanau-Antrim Bar Association) and will today officially be sworn in as President. Agnes worked tirelessly as President-Elect and will continue to work hard with enthusiasm to make GTLABA better than ever. Membership and activity with GTLABA helps lawyers meet our responsibilities as we pursue the mission of GTLABA "to maintain the highest professional standards and competence among attorneys, to promote collegiality and camaraderie among attorneys, to improve the administration of justice, and to provide law-related service and education to our members and the public."

Why is it important to have your case reviewed by the appellate court?

Most obviously because it may result in a different outcome than what was ordered by the trial court. Trial judges and attorneys are not infallible and do make mistakes that can completely change or affect the outcome of your case. An appellate court reviews the trial court’s decision and if the appellate court finds an error that contributed to the trial court's decision, the appeals court will reverse that decision. But an often unrecognized benefit of appealing your case is that, regardless of the outcome, your case will serve to clarify the law and guide the trial court in other cases.
